Fishery rules

General rules

  1. No juniors under 16 years old unless accompanied by an adult
  2. No litter to be left, including dog mess
  3. No fires to be lit
  4. EA angling licence required and regulations to be adhered to, e.g. lead weights, unattended rods, number of rods, distance apart
  5. All fish caught to be returned alive to the water
  6. No keepnets
  7. No livebaiting with fish
  8. No wading – weed clearance on West Bank swims excepted
  9. No uncooked peas, beans or pulses to be used
  10. If pike fishing, please observe a lures-only protocol from the end of April until early November.
  11. No fishing nor access from the banks of the golf course
  12. No bait boats, with exception of West Bank swims, no further than corners of the island and front of island
  13. No boats to be used without the Island/Lake Boat permit
  14. Supply your own rigid boat/punt of timber, GRP or aluminium construction, and in safe condition. No inflatable boats
  15. If afloat, wear your own approved flotation device at all times
  16. No loud radios or music
  17. No illegal drugs
  18. Excessive alcohol consumption will result in withdrawal of your right to fish
  19. Do not pollute the water. No human waste to be left at or buried on the site. Nearest toilet at Ferry Meadows, or ‘bucket, bag it and bin it.’
  20. Excessive consumption of alcohol on site will not be tolerated
  21. The Orton Water has no closed season
  22. Night fishing allowed but for one night maximum stay. You need to book in with duty ranger by 4pm latest.

Disciplinary measures

You will lose your permit/privileges with no entitlement to a refund if you break fishery rules. The decision of the leaseholder is absolute and cannot be appealed.
Please also help us to police the water. Notify any instances of poaching to us or to the duty ranger at Nene Park.
Please also note that jetty timber deteriorates, so please check carefully before using any jetty, and the shed on the island is due to be removed, and should not be entered.

NB: By fishing on this venue, you agree you are doing so at your own risk, as this is an unsupervised activity. You agree not to take any action against the freeholder or leaseholders for any incidents arising. On joining, you will be asked to sign a disclaimer to this effect.

West End Bank Swims (between spinneys)

  • The swims built by the EA are shared with disabled PDAA club member and youth offender events, run by PDAA
  • No fishing on the small pond
  • Boat launch area by the first swim, on the left of the car park, and at rebuilt jetty
  • If more than five West Bank platforms are occupied, restrict yourself to two rods maximum. At other times, up to three rods may be used with the agreement of other members fishing.

Island Bank swims

  • DO NOT use any unsafe jetty until rebuilt.

Lake fishing by boat

  • Supply your own, approved buoyancy aid, to be worn at all times while afloat
  • Boat launch is adjacent to the first jetty in the car park
  • Supply your own, rigid boat of wood, GRP or aluminium construction; no inflatables except to access the Big Island.  Fishing kayas are permitted.
  • No night fishing from any boat.
  • Boats must not be beached on any golf course bank
  • Do not use any boat except that which you have supplied
