The Orton Water Fishery was created as part of the landscaping of Nene Park as a feature of the golf course, and remains surrounded on almost all sides by it.
This 22-acre lake fed from the adjacent Goldie Brook was, early in its life as a fishery, a trout water run by the late Phil Johnson, who operated from a lodge on the west bank, the concrete foundations of which are still there. After a disastrous fire which destroyed the lodge, Phil continued running the water then sadly died, and the water passed, we believe, to a trout fishing syndicate.
In recent years, the water was run as a coarse fishery by the late Kevin Bird, an experienced fishery manager from the St Neots area. As of 2026, the lease holder is Robert Lovell.
